As I plan more interviews for the Start and Grow show, it’s got be thinking about the importance of telling our origin stories.
Every successful founder has a story behind them that explains the journey to where they are today.
But why is your origin story so important to your online success?
Your origin story is a powerful tool that can help you connect with your audience on a deeper level, establish trust, and ultimately drive more sales.
It's a narrative that shares your struggles, triumphs, and defining moments that shaped you to who you are today and more importantly the results you have achieved.
It’s your chance to humanize your business and share your passion and purpose in an authentic, relatable, and memorable way.
This is how you differentiate yourself and give your customers a reason to choose you over other options.
Your origin story matters because people don't just buy products or services; they buy into the story behind them.
Your story can help create that necessary emotional connection with your customers, making them more likely to trust and support your business.
When your story resonates with your audience, it can create a strong sense of community and inspire customer loyalty.
So how do we craft a compelling origin story?
In the book, the Hero with a Thousand faces, Campbell, the author create a “monomyth” which is a pattern that he recognized that all good narratives use, especially the ones that Hollywood turns into big blockbuster movies.
Screenwriter Christopher Vogler then to turned this monomyth into what most people know as the Hero’s Journey.
A framework writers can use to create stories that engage your audience and hold their attention.
Here's what it looks like.
A even more simple framework for telling your origin story is using an adaptation of the Hero’s journey called the epiphany bridge script created by Russell Brunson.
I like this framework because it's easy to use. Just need to answer some simple questions.
The 8 Epiphany Bridge Script Questions
The Backstory: What is your backstory that gives us a vested interest in your journey?
Your Desires: What is it you want to accomplish?
External: What is the external struggle you are dealing with
Internal: What is the internal struggle you are dealing with?
The Wall: What was the wall or problem you hit within your current opportunity that started you on this new journey?
The Epiphany: What was the epiphany you experienced and new opportunity you discovered?
The Plan: What was the plan you created to achieve your desire?
The Conflict: What conflict did you experience along the way?
The Achievement: What was your end result?
The Transformation: What was the transformation you experienced?
Write out the answers and you have your origin story.
